The following are Extracts from Critical Notices of MR. LESLIE'S Essays:

"In the language of Mr. Leslie, himself one of the best living writers on applied Political Economy, a school of no small pretensions, strongly represented in Parliament, supposes itself to be furnished with a com plete apparatus of formulas, within which all economic knowledge is comprised, and which clearly and satis factorily expounds all the phenomena of wealth, and renders all further investigation of the causes and effects of the existing economy of society needless."JOHN STUART MILL. Dissertations and Discussions. Vol, iv.

"It is however Mr. Cliffe Leslie who has placed himself at the front of the historical school of economists by the thoroughness as well as the ability of the essay (in Hermathena') in which he declares his revolt from the orthodox school..... I cannot easily conceive any more interesting or useful study than that which Mr. Leslie advocates and engages in."-The Future of Political Economy: By W. STANLEY JEVONS. 'Fortnightly Review,"

Mr. T. E. Cliffe Leslie, a political economist who has the distinction among political economists of always carefully verifying his conclusions by the observation of facts, has given some most interesting information in an article on Auvergne in the 'Fortnightly Review.'" -Pall Mall Gazette.

"An essay by an eminent economist, Mr. Cliffe Leslie, who has felt the importance of the rising movement much more strongly than is common in this country, points out in a very interesting way the most serious of the objections to the accepted method of political economy. It appears in a Dublin academic periodical called Hermathena,' but the argument well deserves to be embodied in some more permanent form."-Pall Mall Gazette.

"Of late years the dissatisfaction has risen to the dimensions of a European revolt.. . In England a movement by no means imitative, but on the contrary highly original in character, is represented by Mr. Cliffe Leslie..... I recommend all who are interested in the subject to pursue it in its full development in Mr. Leslie's admirable Essay in Hermathena."-The Present Position and Prospects of Political Economy: By JOHN K. INGRAM, F.Ť.C.D.
