The proceeding by attachment was established in Pennsylvania, as early as the year 1700, a short time after the settlement of the province. The act Of 1705, however, which is the earliest legislative provision now in force on the subject Of attachments, made no dis tinction between the two kinds, - foreign and domestic. That distinction, which now separates the two modes of' proceeding, was not marked out by the legislature, until the passing of the act of 1723.
