ments between employer and employe was drafted and recently signed here, the parties to same being the Local Building Trades Council and Building Construction Employers' Association.

The agreement makes strikes in the building trades practically impossible as far as the above-mentioned parties are concerned. It guarantees no outside contractors protection who are not members and makes it more difficult for outside contractors to enter the Cincinnati field.

The agreement calls for all disputes of a jurisdictional nature to be referred to the American Federation of Labor, whose decision is to be considered final; and when any doubt exists, a Board of Arbitration, composed of members of both parties, renders a final decision. No contractor who is a party to this agree

ment can employ non-union labor and receive or expect any protection. Under such circumstances, the unions can, after a twenty-four-hour notice, withdraw the men from the work involved.

Local No. 11 has been approached by the Building Trades Council in reference to becoming a member of that body. The members have practically decided to reaffiliate.

Local No. 11 has been doing fairly well this winter, in fact, better than they can expect this summer here, as there is not much indication on hand that there will be enough work to go all around. However, the boys are all hopeful and are not going to allow that to worry them much.

At Madison, Wis., the Carpenters' Union has signed a three-year agreement with wage increases from 40 to 422 cents per hour for shopmen, and from 45 to 472 cents per hour for

outside men from April 1, 1916, to January 1, 1918, and 50 cents per hour from January 1, 1918, to April 1, 1919.

New Rochelle, N. Y., Carpenters' Union raised wages 30 cents per day, making the present rate $4.80.

URGE LARGER COMPENSATION Lansing, Mich. The executive committee of the State federation of labor has decided to submit to the referendum 11 amendments to the Workmen's Compensation Law. These include increasing rates from 50 to 66 2-3 per cent.; providing for earlier and longer medical attendance; providing for dependents; compensation for disfigurements and injuries not specified in present law, and increased compensation for permanent disabilities.

The labor forward movement, now on in this city, is proving successful. Several unions have been organized, and the prospects are good for unions of retail clerks, teamsters, post office clerks, laundry workers, bakers, iron molders and cement workers.
