Fisheries. The Spring cod fishery in Finnmark, which closed in the middle of June, has given an abundant yield, but prices have ruled low. The value of the catches landed is estimated at approximately 12.5 million kroner, against 15.5 millions last year. The salmon fishery has not been so satisfactory as it was last year, and only poor prices have been obtained. The lobster fishery has given satisfactory results. Canned Goods. The new packing season in the brisling trade has commenced. The fishery is yielding very satisfactory results. When the new season opened, last year's stocks of brisling were practically all cleared. Packers have also exhausted their holdings of small herring. The canning trade is working under favourable conditions; there is an increasing demand and a large export business is being done. Timber and Wood. With the advent of summer stagnation prevails in the planed wood trade, which is also influenced in some measure by the coal strike in Great Britain. Marketing conditions for pit props and pit wood are very poor, and there is no chance of any improvement until the coal strike is settled. Timber and wood exports in January-May 1926 were not quite equal to those in the corresponding period of 1925, although exports returns for sawn timber show a 10 pct. increase over last Of which sulphite: Bleached, dry Sulphate: Unbleached, dry Printings.
